Auditors are brought in to determine the validity and reliability of financial information. Certified financial auditors will come into a company and asses the financial statements. An auditor seeks to declare financial statements true and fair through quantitative and qualitative factors. An auditor will issue a report based on the results of the audit.

Types of Auditors

There are two types of auditorscertified internal auditors and certified external auditors.

The duties of the internal auditor are to insure the integrity and accuracy of their company’s in-house records as well as to detect and inform of any possible mishandling or fraud.

External auditors are contract staff assigned by an auditing firm to asses financial statements of their clients.

It is essential that an auditor is able to give an unbiased evaluation of a client’s records.

What does it take to become an auditor?

If you have aspirations of becoming an auditor then you have to love numbers. Auditors must display excellent analytical skills and attention to detail. They must be proficient in accounting and auditing computer software. It is also important to keep abreast of any changes in law that will affect how their clients must report financial information. Auditors should also possess a high standard of professional integrity as decisions are executed on the basis of their statements and service. Above all, auditors must be comfortable with mathematics, statistical analysis, problem solving, and other similar disciplines.
